CONSTRUCTION HEALTH AND SAFETY ADVISOR – KESTON, KENT

We have a new opportunity within our Health and Safety department for a Construction Health and Safety Advisor to join our team in Keston, Kent. Our small, but expanding team is focused upon delivering high quality Health and Safety advice to a range of clients in the construction industry. We offer the opportunity for on the job training as well as career and technical development.

The role will include completing site safety audits on a variety of client’s sites and construction projects. A significant portion of the role will therefore be site based and include travelling to clients’ construction sites. Audits include traditional construction, housing developments, commercial refurbishments, ground works and soil remediation, RC Frame construction and engineering projects in the field of renewable energy (solar farm construction). The work is predominantly within the South East of England but sites can be located throughout the UK and the role will involve travel.

The candidate must have a commitment to learn and to complete Continued Professional Development.

The position requires a qualified health and safety professional (NEBOSH Construction Certificate as a minimum) with relevant professional membership (IIRSM, IOSH or equivalent). Applicants without these qualifications will not be considered. Membership to APS would be beneficial but not a requirement. The candidate should have relevant UK working experience or in depth knowledge of UK legislation. In addition, candidates should have relevant experience in a similar role and be able to demonstrate a track record of successful Health and Safety Compliance Auditing.

Familiarity of working on a variety of projects would be preferable including RC Frame construction and ground works.

STRATEGIC INFRASTRUCTURE TEAM – BIRMINGHAM

IDOM is currently recruiting for infrastructure engineers to be based in offices in central Birmingham near to New Street Railway station.

Immediate vacancies are at three levels:

Design Manager(s)

Reporting to the Project Director. Candidates are likely to have 6 to 8 years post graduate experience of managing the design of large infrastructure schemes (this could include highways, rail or airports) – however, any candidates who may not have the number of years’ experience required but can demonstrate the necessary skills may apply and will be considered. Good technical design skills in highways, airports, pavements or rail would be advantageous as this role will involve mentoring and managing the design process and mentor the team as necessary is required. This role will require direct liaison with Key Stakeholders at all levels and an ability to manage project deliverables to programme and within budget.

A flexible approach to working location and willingness to support other team projects is essential.

Senior Infrastructure Engineer(s)

Reporting to the Design Manager. Candidates are likely to have 8 to 10 years post graduate experience of roads and drainage design in either a highways or aviation environment. A knowledge of and ability to design pavements would also be advantageous. General experience of airport design or rail would also be advantageous but not essential. Any candidates who may not have the number of years’ experience required but can demonstrate the necessary skills may apply and will be considered. Candidates will be expected to have an ability to liaise closely with clients and to manage a team of technicians to produce work to high technical standard and to meet Key Stakeholders’ programme.

A flexible approach to working location and willingness to support other team projects is essential together with an ability to develop new skills and knowledge of up to date Codes of Practice and design software.

Senior Technician(s)

Reporting to the Senior Engineers. Candidates are likely to have several years experience of preparing and presenting detailed drawings for infrastructure construction, including roads, drainage and pavements – however, any candidates who may not have the number of years’ experience required but can demonstrate the necessary skills may apply and will be considered. An ability to lead and develop CAD technicians is expected. An ability to use 3D based software for design is expected, e.g. PDS, Civils 3D. Candidates will also expect to have a flexible approach to location and a willingness to develop new skills and knowledge.


CIVIL/STRUCTURAL ENGINEER(S) – CARDIFF

A Civil or Structural Engineer with general design experience in roads, drainage and /or foundations is required. Ideally candidates would have a minimum of 4 to 5 years’ post graduate experience of design and detailing and be prepared to work on large scale infrastructure projects in rail or aviation environments.

This position may suit a developing structural engineer with knowledge of Eurocodes, structural analysis and an interest in roads and drainage design. Any candidates who may not have the number of years’ experience required but can demonstrate the necessary skills may apply and will be considered. Progression towards professional qualifications would be expected and supported.

A working knowledge of WinDES drainage design and detailing for SFA 6th and 7th Editions and S104 applications together with 3D volumetrics and geometric design software and structural analysis would be ideal but further training is expected.


SENIOR/ASSOCIATE GEO-TECHNICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER – KESTON, KENT

This role focuses more upon the geotechnical aspects and comprises the assessment and interpretation of geotechnical and geo-environmental data. This will generally be in the support of new developments ranging in scale from low rise housing estates to high-rise flats.

Essential requirements:

• A minimum of eight years relevant experience for the Senior role or 13 years for the Associate role – however, any candidates who may not have the number of years’ experience required but can demonstrate the necessary skills may apply and will be considered.
• Member of a relevant organisation and working towards chartered status.
• Sound understanding of geotechnical engineering and assessment.
• Experience in managing, undertaking and supervising intrusive site investigations using a variety of techniques (shell and auger, windowless sampling, trial pits etc).
• Ability to log soils and manage sub-contractors.
• Fluent English speaker with good communication skills for liaising with clients.
• Excellent standard of written English required for writing of factual and interpretative reports.
• Ability to undertake preliminary foundation design, slope stability assessment, earthworks specifications and retaining wall design.
• Existing client relationships would be advantageous.
• Candidates should also have an understanding of contaminated land and the assessment of contamination in soil and groundwater.
• A full UK driving licence is essential.

Required Qualifications:

• Applicants should possess a first degree in either Geology, Engineering Geology or Civil Engineering and will preferably hold a post graduate qualification in Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline.

The exact nature of the role will depend upon individual candidates and their experience – however, it will include, site investigation and supervision of site works, factual and interpretive report writing, project management and supervising and mentoring junior member of staff client liaison. Again depending upon experience, this will include both contaminated land and geotechnical projects.

The successful applicant will report to the Technical Director of Environment and will be required to promote, develop and grow the business and increase our profile in the marketplace. Excellent management skills will also be necessary as the successful applicant will be required to oversee the work of a small team of junior engineers.


GEO-ENVIRONMENTAL CONSULTANT – KESTON, KENT

Idom Merebrook are looking for candidates for a role within the busy geo-environmental team in our Kent office. The role involves providing consultancy services to our wide and varied client list on projects ranging from brownfield development to waste.

Essential requirements:

• Be able to demonstrate a solid track record within the industry with relevant experience.
• Phase I and Phase II Environmental Assessments.
• Qualitative and quantitative risk assessment.
• Writing factual and interpretive reports (in English).
• Fluent English speaker with good communication skills for liaising with clients.
• Client liaison and project management.
• A full UK driving licence is essential.

Other related skills including EIA, permitting, air quality assessment and acoustics would be advantageous but not essential.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate their capability in WinDES drainage design and detailing for SFA 6th and 7th Editions, S104 and S185 applications together with road design using PDS or similar for S38 applications. Experience with S278 applications would be advantageous.

It is expected that the successful candidates would be working on the prestigious Dublin Airport infrastructure upgrades and a willingness to travel to Dublin and work there for short periods is expected.


SENIOR AND INTERMEDIATE INFRASTRUCTURE DESIGN ENGINEERS – MANCHESTER

HIGHWAYS DESIGNER (Approaching or at Senior Level) – MANCHESTER

The successful candidate’s role will be to provide the design and detailing of highways, sewers and private drainage in connection with residential, retail, commercial developments, energy, transport and public sector developments as required.

The role will be based at our Manchester office, however, the job will involve some travelling and periods working away may be required to other offices or client’s offices.

Technical Responsibilities

Development of infrastructure designs and client reports including, ground modelling, highways (horizontal and vertical alignments), foul and surface water drainage networks, SUDS, flood risk assessments and Section 38, 104, 106, 185, and 278 agreements.

Ensure all work is undertaken taking into account the CDM (Construction Design Management) Regulations and also in accordance with current design standards and Authority requirements.

Assisting other projects, primarily civils orientated, as required.

Essential Requirements

Be able to demonstrate a solid track record within the industry as a Civil Engineer.

Competent user of: AutoCAD, PDS, Microdrainage WinDes, Civils3D.

A good working knowledge of: DMRB, IANs, MCHW, Sewers for Adoption, UDS, Code for Sustainable Homes, S38, S104, S106 and S185 and S278 Agreements, Building Regulations and CDM (Construction Design Management) Regulations.

The ability to work independently, within a team and to establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and clients both internally within the Company and externally.

MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER (Approaching or at Senior Level) – MANCHESTER

The successful candidate’s role will be to provide mechanical design services across all stages of general build projects (design, construction, installation and commissioning). The role although predominantly in building services will also require flexibility to provide knowledge of and solutions to other sectors of the business as requirements dictate.

Essential Requirements

Be able to demonstrate a solid track record within the industry as an Mechanical Design Engineer and have experience of leading projects for consultancy or building services contractors.

The ability to work independently, within a team and liaise with professionals including structural engineers, architects, surveyors and contractors both internally within the Company and externally.

Experience in, but not limited to the following sectors; residential (high-rise would be ideal), commercial, education, health care, leisure, offices and industrial – together with site experience.

A good working knowledge of the following software: IES, SBEM/EPC analysis, Hevacomp, Cymap, Revit, AutoCAD and NES spec writing software would be desirable.

Relevant qualifications – HND or Degree.

Specification and report writing skills.

Knowledge and understanding of RIBA stages of works and Design and Build projects.

ASSISTANT/TRAINEE HEALTH AND SAFETY ADVISOR – KESTON, KENT

(Salary 20k-25k)

This is an exciting opportunity to work within our Health and Safety Department covering various industry sectors as a health and safety consultant. Due to our growth in the renewable energy sector we are expanding the team so would be a great career move for anyone who would like to be part of a progressive forward thinking consultancy.

The role will include full training to enable the candidate to undertake health and safety site inspections in construction environments, act as an assistant when required to our lead surveyor and undertake asbestos surveys.

The ideal candidate will have relevant experience in hazard identification, construction activity related risk assessment and hold the appropriate health and safety qualifications i.e. NEBOSH General Certificate/Construction Certificate as a minimum.

The role will be based out of our Keston office in Kent, however, the job involves extensive travelling throughout the UK with the majority of our work in and around the M25 – therefore the candidate should be willing to travel and hold a full clean UK driving licence.
