Update on Manchester’s Northern Quarter Project
We have been appointed to manage the outline design for all mechanical and electrical engineering works on one of Manchester’s highest profile residential developments in the city’s fashionable Northern Quarter.
The Northern Quarter project, worth over £9 million is a residential scheme on an infill site bordered by Red Lion Street, Church Street, and Union Street, and has recently been granted planning permission by Manchester City Council.
Our team of mechanical and electrical engineers last year completed the RIBA Stage 3 Building Services design as part of the planning application, as well as producing the SUDS report for the project.
The neighborhood, which has a reputation for being the ‘bohemian’ heart of Manchester, is rich in history and runs adjacent to Market St and Piccadilly. The development site itself is situated in the center of the conservation area, and as such has been designed to be in keeping with the style of the original buildings.
The exterior design includes maintaining the aesthetics of the original Bulls Head pub façade as an entrance and above the façade; the rest of the building has been set back by 3.6m to limit visual impact at street level.
Comprising a 38-apartment scheme, the complex designed by Neil Collins Architecture varies in height between three, five, seven, eight and eleven stories and also includes 2,000 sq. ft. of ground floor commercial space. The residential element will include 1,2 and 3 bedroom units above office and retail space on the lower levels.
