The project involved the redevelopment of two school sites in Lincolnshire.

At the planning application stage we prepared air quality assessments for each site, ensuring that the sites were suitable for the proposed high sensitivity use, and made recommendations for the minimisation of air quality impacts during the construction and operational phases of development. We also commissioned and coordinated a number of subcontracted services on behalf of the client including utility and topographic surveys and preliminary ecological, arboricultural and archaeological surveys.

We devised a program of works to ensure that critical path items were scheduled in the correct sequence and liaised with the head teacher and caretaker at the active school site to arrange access for the surveys.

Contaminant levels in soils identified during the intrusive investigation were found to exceed industry-standard generic acceptance criteria. We liaised with the Local Authority who agreed to the development of a bespoke Contaminated Land Exposure Assessment (CLEA) model to reflect the specific risks of exposure associated with the proposed school. A revised remediation strategy, which utilised the site-specific assessment criteria, was produced and signed off by the Local Authority. This greatly reduced the amount of material requiring off-site disposal and minimised the volume of imported material thereby contributing to the sustainability of the project and saving our client considerable costs

We supported our client throughout the project, going above and beyond to ensure that the necessary evidence to enable validation of both the Materials Management Plan and Remediation Strategy was available at the point of handover.
